Further Development Planned For Symmetry Park Biggleswade

We have been granted detailed planning permission for the third phase of Symmetry Park, Biggleswade, totalling 927,000 sq ft of highly sustainable logistics space. The first two phases, offering a total of 1.24m sq ft, are fully occupied.

Central Bedfordshire Council has approved plans for three new, state-of-the-art logistics buildings to be developed, comprising 384,325 sq ft; 287,200 sq ft and 255,700 sq ft. All three facilities will be built to net zero carbon in construction and will target a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

Located off the A1 and 29 miles north of J23 of the M25, Symmetry Park, Biggleswade comprises a total of 150 acres. Phase one comprises a 661,000 sq ft BREEAM Excellent facility which is solely occupied by The Co-operative Group as its Regional Distribution Centre.

Phase two comprises four logistics facilities occupied by Bidfood (160,000 sq ft), Bowman Ingredients (75,000 sq ft), Noatum Logistics (230,000 sq ft) and Bond International (112,000 sq ft). The second phase also included the installation of a new energy centre to provide resilient and sustainable power integrating on site generation from PV on the roofs of the units.

In December of 2023, Tritax Symmetry finalised discussions regarding the phase two Community Benefit Fund. As part of this allocation, £57,700 has been designated for Biggleswade Town Council’s Kitelands Recreation Ground improvement project. This phase involves the creation of a new toddlers’ play area, complete with upgraded play equipment and enhanced ground surfacing.

Mark Foster, The Mayor of Biggleswade, said: “The Town Council would like to thank Tritax Symmetry for their continued investment in the local community. This additional funding is a valuable and much appreciated contribution to the Town Council’s wider play area refurbishment programme”.

Tom Leeming, Development Director at Tritax Symmetry, commented: “We have successfully developed this site into a highly sustainable distribution park for local, regional and international businesses. In addition, our business has worked together with the local community and provided considerable funds resulting directly from the development for the exciting Kitelands project. We’re looking forward to delivering the next phase, with further announcements due imminently on those plans, to attract further high quality jobs and economic growth to the town.”

The project team for phase three includes: Woods Harwick (Planning Consultants); Savills (Project Management); AJA Architects; Hydrock (Civil & Structural Engineer); Feasibility (Quantity Surveyor); BasePower (Utilities Engineer); Dunwoody (Mechanical & Electrical Engineer), SLR (Highways Engineer) and ACD Environmental (Landscape Architects).
